Deputy Head of Mission of the U.S. Embassy visits the “Vermont” Youth Centre

Employees of the Vermont Youth Center, along with those of the new Bijeljina office, welcomed Nicholas Hill today during an official visit to Brčko District on behalf of the U.S. Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The aim of the visit was to learn about the center’s current projects and program activities, as well as its plans for the period ahead.

The working meeting began with a presentation of the most significant programmes and projects that the “Vermont” Youth Centre carries out in its priority areas of work. Mr Hill showed particular interest in projects to combat corruption and engage young people on this issue. During the discussion of corruption itself, an issue woven into every sphere of society, the director of the “Vermont” Youth Centre, Mr Damir Radenković, said that one of the main reasons they work to address this problem is that young people have recognised how much it affects their socio-economic status.

“For a long time, the USAID Mission in BiH has supported numerous organizations, and the work of the civil sector certainly should not end when donor funding stops. Today, I received much more from you than I expected!” concluded the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in BiH, praising the initiative and inviting representatives of Vermont to contact the US Embassy with proposals for potential cooperation. He also expressed his conviction that today’s visit had only strengthened the partnership and mission shared by both organizations.

These initiatives confirm the value of the activities and results achieved by the “Vermont” Youth Centre over its twenty-one years of existence, both in the Brčko District of BiH and throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina.
