Today at 10, the event “Decorating the Christmas Tree” was held on the square in front of the “Semberija” Cultural Center as part of the humanitarian campaign “One Sweet Brings Back a Smile.” Children from all the kindergartens in Bijeljina enjoyed decorating the Christmas tree, marking the start of the campaign.

After the event, a Christmas cartoon was shown for the youngest children in the Cultural Center’s main hall.

Today’s activity was organized by the “Semberija” Cultural Center and Centar za edukaciju i istraživanje (CER) in cooperation with the Vermont Youth Center from Brčko.

“As in previous years, today we organized a joint tree-decorating event for children from all the kindergartens in the city. We are glad the children enjoyed it, and we hope that many other citizens will join in,” said CER Director Mladen Dokić.

“Decorating the tree is just one of the activities we are organizing this month as part of the ‘One Sweet Brings Back a Smile’ campaign, which aims to collect sweets and gift packages for children whose parents are in difficult material and financial circumstances and cannot afford this kind of New Year’s joy,” Dokić added.

Today at 13, a performance of “The Emperor’s New Year’s Outfit,” based on a text by Jovica Tišma, with music by Slobodan Boda Ninković, was staged for children from socially disadvantaged families and children with special needs. Gift packages were distributed after the performance.

“Today we distributed around 300 gift packages to children from socially disadvantaged families as well as children with special needs. I would especially like to thank the citizens’ association “Cool” and the “Happy Travel” tourism organization, which joined the campaign and helped us collect as many gift packages as possible,” said Dokić.
